50lb bag of sand 3 bucks?

Lots of ppl use it. It's fine you just have to make sure to wash it really well first.

for what? I went with the fine sand because the others seemed to me to be fairly rough edged grains, by feel anyway, and you need smooth for corys.

I have this in my 240 and I tell you it was a PITA to clean it. I have PFS in another tank and I really recommend PFS more. It's easier to clean, doesn't mess of your filters, and frankly looks better. So yes the all purpose sand works, it's just not the best

Pool Filter Sand is a few dollars more...and much cleaner... clean enough, in fact, that I just dump it in directly.

I'd spend $5 more and save myself the PITA of cleaning the stuff...

I use play sand from lowes. It's like 3 or 4 dollars for 50 pond bag. I have 3 bags in my 100. It's nice. It's not really hard to clean but it does take a lil time.

Prob one of the most common things for a DIY substrate. Be sure to rise very well though, that stuff is filthy!
