hi all,
I am now saving to built this all glass tank on my own, the dimensions would be 2m x 1m x 1m, which would make a 520 gallon. Glass thickness are 12mm,
will that be save enough?

I want a nice flat bottom so instead of putting the bracing inside the tank, I'd put the bracing on the bottom and on top of that is the flat piece of glass, so therefor, all flat inside. Could this be OK too?

As for the filtration, I am planning to use a canister filter, perhaps will drill some holes on the top bracing.
are there any advice that I could use?
cheers

I am not sure about the bottom brace needing to be on the inside. But you might want some center brace with a 6ft tank I know mine had 2 braces in the middle of the tank. And 2 meters is a bit longer then 6ft.

im no expert on building an aquarium but according to this chart u should go with 16mm to be safe.maybe even 20mm.

thanks for the reply, I've been waiting for some answers for days,
I've seen alot of plywood tanks being built in the forum, but didnt find much on the all glass tank.

this is the thing that worries till now, I really want a flat ground on the bottom rather than having bracing inside which is therefor causing uneven surface. Also I was considering of having two layers of glass on the bottom which is of course would cost more, but I though it would be stronger.
But perhaps the answer for this is to get even thicker glass.

yup, while waiting for people opinions ages ago, I was looking at this information as well, I could get away with 12mm if I reduce the height to 60 cm. Or make the dimension to 2.5m x 1m x 0.6m, which is less in gall but it will give me a wider area. But now I'm considering a thicker glass to make, its better to be save.

my 300g is 96"x30"x25" and is 12mm glass. from what i see taller is the main factor on glass thickness.

from I see taller does have a big roll in how thick the glass has to be. But lenght has a small factor. i would say make the tank the dimensions that works best for the fish you want to keep. I love catfish so I would rather have a wider tank then a tall tank. But on the other hand angelfish and discus you need a taller tank. As far at the bracing on the bottom why would you want it flat? Are you going with a bare bottom?

sorry I'm a bit confused with what you mentioned above,
yes I am going with a bare bottom, but also personally I do prefer having a flat surface bottom, which is why if bracing is required at this case, then I would put the bracing on the bottom then on top of that is another layer of glass just like on the image I posted. Therefor, that way I could still have bracing and a flat surface.
But if that's not possible then I would go with a thicker glass.

you will need 17-19mm glass for a tank that deep

you can go to 36 inch deep with 15mm

ok with a bare bottom that would make since. See I put sand in my tanks so the bracing on the inside of the tank does not bother me. I think the bracing is not really to help the bottom of the tank. I think is more for support on the sides of the tank. With out them you would only have a tiny bit of silicone holding the sides from blowing out. I could be wrong but that would be my best guess on why there there.
