Ok, this will be a while before I get this done but I was thinking about it, when I finally get a stand for my 75, I will be putting my cichlids into it. Then I was thinking about what to use for my 55, I was thinking of making a brackish tank out of it. I had a vioet goby before and loved him, he was fun to watch and just had a "silly" personality. What other fish would go into it with him IF I did this??

What are the exact measurements of the 55gal? Violet gobys can grow up to 2ft long in the wild, 14-16inches long is more common in captivity though, a 55gallon tank is acceptable for violet gobys although it is the absolute advised minimum amount of gallons for keeping this sort of fish in, a lot depends on the exact measurements of the tank. A 75gallon tank would be better for a violet goby.

They really do need a soft fine sand substrate, and shouldn't be mixed with boisterous tankmates or other bottom feeders.

I found this info on another site;
" An easy way to provide Gobioides broussonnetii with a good food source is to place them in a marine setting. The live rock in a marine tank provides an ample supply of micro-crustaceans, such as copepods, which make an ideal food source for them. If there is a large enough supply of micro-crustaceans for Gobioides broussonnetii to graze on in a marine setting, (which is dependant on the amount of live rock and how mature the tank is) only supplemental feeding may be necessary with foods such as bloodworm, algae wafers, and bits of silversides."

"Gobioides broussonnetii is often mislabeled as the similar species Gobioides peruanus. The two species are very similar in appearance but Gobioides broussonnetii is more elongated and thinner as Gobioides peruanus is shorter, thicker, and has a more deeply purple-colored body. The care for the two species is pretty much identical except that Gobioides peruanus will not tolerate marine salinities but will tolerate freshwater. Gobioides peruanus is predominantly imported into the UK so if you live in the UK, chances are you have Gobioides peruanus rather than Gobioides broussonetii and vice versa for the US."

Hope this info helps :) .

My tank is 48"L x 12"W not sure the heigth. I would not add any other bottom feeders. But if this tank is the bare min. for size I may just look into getting Dempsy or convicts or something on that line instead of Brackish. Since the main reason I was thinking brackish was b/c of the Goby. I will have a lot of time to figure out what I want to do. Not sure which species I had but he was more a gray/purple color and kinda thick, I just no I loved him and would like another.

I haven't moved them yet, still awaiting a stand for the 75. Just thinking outloud ahead. The fish that I have are african cichlids that will be going into the 75.

Hm its probably best not to put a violet goby in the tank if its only 12inches wide, best to stick to other fish like convicts or something like you said :thumbsup: .
I really like Dempsy's and convicts. I don't know guess the brackish is out of my thoughts now. So I will look at others and figure out what I want. Maybe I should leave the 55 for the africans and get something else for the 75. I just wanted to get more africans and don't want to overdue the 55.

You can do bichirs in the 75 :-)
Ok, I'm game for this I think. I have a ropefish and have been trying to figure what I want to do with him. So I need some more info on a few of these guy's (bichirs), some tank mate suggestions...from the site I went to it looks like I could have them with bigger Cichlids could they go with a Dempsy or Convicts, Jewels? I am very interested here I believe. I really liked the Armoured and the Ornate, would either of these be a possibility?

This tank would not be big enough for Jag's would it??
