Will do, will probably start the process late December :).

Hi there.. Lupin had some great advice. Because you said you had trouble finding info you might also want to check our simplydiscus.com a great sight dedicated to this stately fish.
I loved having pool filter sand bottoms in my adult planted discus tanks and even a thin layer of sand on a barebottom tank looks great and is easy to clean. The sand is cheap and you can get it at most pool supply stores or hardware stores. As to aquascaping, a lot depends upon whether you plan on starting with juvenile discus or adults. Basically the younger the fish the more feedings and therefore waterchanges so the easiest setup to keep clean the better.
People disagree as to how many waterchanges are needed but the more the happier the fish are and the better they seem to grow. Even with my adults I did twice a week and they were in a 120 gallon tank. There are also pics of setups that are barebottom with plants in pots that look great. Look around you'll find plenty of info.
The main thing is to start with the healthiest discus you can find and if possible get them all at the same time from a local breeder. After that if you add any other fish QUARANTINE them.. If additional discus for at least 4 weeks. if other tankmates at least 2 weeks depending on the source and condition of the fish. I quarantined for 5 weeks regardless. Rummynose tetras are great tankmates in an adult planted tank as are bns. Whatever way you decide to go let the discus be the kings of the tank and let them be in there for awhile before adding other tankmates. Once you have the discus in there you might just decide, as most of us do, that they are so beautiful there is no need for any other fish in the tank. HTH Sue:):)

I read that loaches can be put with discus, is this true?
