55 G Filtration!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nope other than the two main holes for placing the decor, my tank has one tiny circular hole that could fit only a cord for a heater, and a bigger slot for the HOB filter or intake and outtake tubes for a canister.

That sucks man. You can keep that 204, add the Ac 50, remove the carbon and replace with another foam insert and maybe add spongefilter/powerhead combo and bam you have double the filtration as you had before. Or if you could buy a bigger canister you and move your old 204 bio media into it. You can find good deals on Craigslist or at used aquarium stores. There's this used aquarium store here we got a like new API canister rated for 175 gallons at a fraction of the price ($60). The deals are out there, you just have to dig a little.

To answer if the Ac50 will be noisy question. No. I find that Aquaclear filters are some of the most silent on the market. Sometimes if I put my waterline higher than normal I find myself checking to make sure my Ac110 and Ac70 is still running (the Ac70 is right next to my bed too).

Acrylic tank tops can be easily drilled. If you have access to a drill, you can buy a 1" paddle bit and drill the tank while it is even full. Personally as much as I like the AC110, I wouldn't waste my money or time on anything smaller then an AC70. Figure out a way to get the AC110 onto your tank, you'll be glad you did.

+1 I think, too, that an AC50 would be a waste of time and money in this application. Perhaps way overkill, I run an AC70 on my 20 long, and 2 AC110s on my 4' 60 Gallon.
