I have a 55g that I'm thinking of setting up in another part of my house. I wante dto throw in just one big nasty ass black pirhana, but my wife wants some nice schooling fish tht swim around so I figured since I have monsters in the big tank she could pic out the fish for the 55. Any ideas on what might be some good fish?

I enjoy planted community tanks with tetras, rainbows, guppies.....little common fish like that. I have my 55 set up that way and i'm really quite happy with it.

If I were you I would just make it a community tank with all types of communtiy fish

You wanna keep freshwater or saltwater in the new one? If you want saltwater, there are beautiful smaller schooling fish, that aren't exactly monsters, but cool just the same. Plus a nice reef always looks good! So which are you leaning towards??

Your kidding right?

You could get a few mid-sized CA cichlids...that way you would get aggresive fish and your wife would have her pretty community fish. You could try a convict, firemouth and rainbow cichlid combo. Or a couple severums. You could also do something similer with African cichlids...I just happen to prefer American cichlids. I would suggest having a native community tank, that's an idea I trow out there a lot that gets shot down so I'll spare you the details.

i have a 33 long with three green spotted puffers and i bought two pairs of platies and a trio of mollis ( one male two females) they all get along great and my mollies and platies are breeding like crazy. i have the ph around 7.5 to 8 and add some marine salt to make it brackish specific gravitiy about 1.008 some times alittle less. it is really an easy tank to take care of and is fun to watch. the puffers are messy and the mollies and platies clean up the puffers mess.
