55 gal ideas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I personally have 3 cb Senegalus in a 55 to themselves and was thinking of adding my group of 4 Congo Tetra. One CB Senegal and a small group of Congo would be fine imo. If my Senegalus were not doing well I don't think they would have spawned in the aquarium. They are not always active but yes more active than my Polypterus in the 180 gallon. If they were Turkana Senegalus no way would they remain in a 55 gallon.

Hullo hullo,

So I recently managed to get my hands on a 55 gal long and stand that I will be setting up this evening. I've had larger tanks in the past, but most of what I've kept can be summed up as literally just polys, catfish, and mantis shrimp. As such, I have absolutely no idea what I'll put in a 55, as IMO that's way too small for most polys. Right now I'm torn between Pink Tail Chalceus and green terror, the latter being my favorite because I've always wanted a green terror, but I also like PTC because PTC. If neither of these are feasible I could go with a JD or an acara. Generally I don't know what biotope to go for or how I want it to look, but I wanna come back in the hobby with something fun. I know this is a question that gets asked a lot but does anyone have any ideas?

Hello,

You should take a look at a Salvini cichlid. The bold and the beautiful wrapped in to one. I had an adult one years ago. He was in a community tank and was pretty even tempered for a Salvini. He could always hold his own though. Don't take this one scenario I had as the norm. Some of them are straight up killers. lol They are definitely worth a look though. A 55g would be a minimum size for one adult male Salvini, so you're good there. If you wanted a pair you would probably need a 75/90g. GL
