Hey guys. I have decided. Since I have moved everything out of my 55gal. it is free to use. I am going to make it a Marine tank. I was just wondering what type of fish would be good for in a 55 gal saltwater tank. I really like triggers. Could I possibly get some of those? Any other suggestions appreciated as long as they are beginner fish. Never kept saltwater before. Thanks.

triggers are great fish but it would be the only fish in the tank and i would say a 75 or 90 would be much better.

a picasso triger rhinecanthus aculeatus would be ok but will kill any other fish if not right away eventually

do u like triggers because of the personality i would go with a toby

u need to stick woth fish 6" or less or one 10" fish

I like triggers because of their unique shape and personality. Are there any other fish that could live in a 55 that are similar to that of triggers but maybe smaller that can be kept in a 55 gallon. Thanks

I'm not sure of ones like them, but 55's are best suited to smaller fish (6" or less.) Standard 55's are only 12" wide. That's the reason they are best suited to smaller fish. Also. With predatory fish you will have to do more frequent water changes than in larger tanks.

a filefish would be cool, they look like triggers, and stay smaller ( most of them)...the fantail orange filefish would be really cool. you could do that and like a paddle fin wrasse ( might be to aggressive for the filefish), and then one more small fish...like a hawk fish

Could those dwarf lion fish live with triggers & tangs?

I've kept a dwarf lion with yellow tang and a maroon clown in the past... they got all along great. I've heard triggers, like puffers like to nip, so I dunno if that would work.

good luck!
