55 gal tank doesn't support life.

temp in tank always reads 78 deg F but I couldn't tell you what after hours temp is.

I haven't looked at the lighting. It is plenty bright though. I would doubt that lighting is the problem for the plants.

This might sound stoopid, but--what kind of protective hood is on the aquarium, and what kind of access do libraray members have to it? Being a teacher of many destructive young people, my first thought was kids messing around with it if they can get to it at all, OR well-meaning folk who end up developing a relationship with a fish or all and "feeding" them in that old well-meaning but destructive mode. Just a thot. . . r

Is it possible they are forgetting to feed? This would produce a possible lack of nitro and also cause fish to be malnourished and die. Some of the fish don't look too good. A DAnio had it's eye damaged/ picked out?
