55 gal tank too small??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
a 55 should be fine, and yes feed them raw shrimp ( with shell on, its good for thier coloring) and smelt. you can feed them all white flesh fish, and nightcrawlers. i feed my piranhas tiaplia, its a white meat fish, it sticks together very good so it dosnt make a mess of your tank. gl and post a pic. if you have any questions pm and and i will try to help :)

elong get 6-8" 55gal is to small for ANY true piranha for its life.

So your saying that a 55 gal is too small for a Brandti,Geryi,Sanchez or even Red Bellies??I mean no disrespect but if i had a 220 gal tank i could say the same thing, but i have 4 kids to feed, not to mention a mortgage ,a car payment, yada, yada, yada,a 55 is the best that i can do right now, :WHOA:

i'm sorry for your situation but a lot of people would agree with me. you could put a few wimple piranha in a 55.

it would be for a normal fish that gets 6-8" but an elong is a river fish that is a really fast swimmer, im not saying its to small cause it wouldn't fit just because i wouldn't want my fish slamming him self in to the walls of my not big enough tank.

Really? Well to be honest I'm no P expert, I've never kept any serrasalmus species.
But from videos etc I've seen of elongs, they don't seem that active or skittish.

Are they?

depends on the owner/tank setup.
if they get stressed all the time, they will hardly ever move.
otherwise, they are pretty active with hiding spots, and will exercise against powerheads, attack anything that hits the water immediately, etc. etc.
also depends on the species of P, red bellies are naturally skittish.
