55 gal tank too small??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
dude it will take you years to grow out an elong to 8" you prolly never will.. a 55 will be good for him.

Its your fish. Put it in a bowl if you want. It can still be heathy. I'm sure your one of those people that buy dovii and stick it a 75gal and say "hey it will take a long time and hey, its only a 3' fish the tanks 4', it should be ok." fact is I just dont like watching my fish slam thier faces in the side of the tank. by the way before you say an 8" fish belongs in a tank 12" wide go live in a closet for a couple weeks then when you get out we'll see if you say the same thing. im sure youll be ok, as long as someone throws some food in the top and removes your ****... youll be "good".

dude lay off the drugs.. how many elongs have you seen grow to 8" in capitivity ? exactly.. it will take years for that to happen. and piranhas are not stupid fish.. they only slam into the glass if they are spooked.. so stop saying that a elong in a 55 gal will keep smashing into the glass.. he will be "good" with a 55.

a 55 should be fine, and yes feed them raw shrimp ( with shell on, its good for thier coloring) and smelt. you can feed them all white flesh fish, and nightcrawlers. i feed my piranhas tiaplia, its a white meat fish, it sticks together very good so it dosnt make a mess of your tank. gl and post a pic. if you have any questions pm and and i will try to help :)
Silly spy, I have not seen many elongs but the ones I saw were 10-11" long and they are known to get a little larger, the few I have seen were very active and the reason you don't see many large ones is the same reason people think they are short lived, improper care. A 55g (standard) is to narrow for one.

Siesta,i'm sorry if i sounded "snippy",no harm meant and you are right.
I wasn't really aiming that in your direction. sorry if it sounded that way. you asked the question, you did the right thing. I was refering to the person that is trying to give you the wrong advice.

bigger tanks are easier to maintain in my opinion. much easier. if you want something perfect for a 50, get exodons. they are active, and eat just like P's do. this website sells them: http://www.aquascapeonline.com/store/scripts/default.asp

hey siesta, in your 220 gal. tank, do you really have 30 rbp's with those other fish? Are things working out? that's amazing, but I cant imagine they'll live for much longer. and I gotta see a pic of that panther grouper you have in your 60 gal. tank. those things are beautiful. how big do they get?

ya for now(knock on wood) all is well. balas have some tail fin damage but nothing bad. loaches and algae eaters are great. my fish are young though. well see what happens. panther is a baby as well 3". they get huge. as do p. puffers and blue spots. a new tank will be bought when they hit around the 6" mark.

lol you should see some of the student digs im livin in. legend. fish are from the open waters, you'll never re create anywhere near that, but i agree with siesta, the more the better.

Sanchezi might be a better option if you already have the 55.

If you don't have one yet, you can buy a tank like a 50 breeder (18" wide) an elong might be plausible.
