55 gallon Cost

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A skimmer is not ABSOLUTELY needed. It would help, but i run my 75 gallon without a skimmer. I also found my live rock on ebay for ~$2 a pound. Much cheaper than paying $5/lb at the LFS. Since your doing a FOWLR, you won't have to spend too much on lighting.

For my 75 gallon i spent:
$200 on live rock
$50 on Compact flourescent lighting
$10 on sand (playsand from home depot)
$30 on salt to fill it up

~$280 (without fish)

And thats about it. I had a couple canisters laying around so i used those. I spend about ~$4 a week to do water changes with RO water.

ugh don't rub your cheapness in my face lol

i would get a skimmer you know! they are cooooooool and a UV sterilizer

well yea if you can afford a skimmer, get one. I bought one a year ago (aquaC remora pro) but the thing never worked right. Either id get no skimmate at all or very watery skimmate.

i just get a watery one but its a crappy colour lol still get one....you need to spend lots of money so i don't feel so bad

wow. i spent that on coral alone so far lol. Still very exspensive for its size though. Do you have plans for a larger salt (reef)????

haha nooooo ( yes thought of it ) parents would kill me! i've only had this tank 2month lol but i have read alot of books so i kinda know what am doing.

but i must confess i love big fish. havn't got any but i'm planning a 200gallon tank but it will take up alot of space in the living room! of my parents house .....soooo if i get it then i'll convert my 100gallon into a reef. ugh one step at a time my brain will pop. with fish keeping i'm always planning 3 steps ahead!
