I currently have a 55 gallon with 1 flowerhorn and 1 pleco and emperor 400 running at the moment.

I want to add another filter to this set up. What do ya recommend? Canister or another HOB?

yikes 300 bucks for a filter. I dont have that kind of money laying around. hehe.

I think that is out of my price range. Its only a 55 gallon. do i really need that?

ac500 is now called the ac 110, i would go for at least one of those at 500 gallons per hour on a 55 gallon you will have about 9 times turn over.... you wanna shoot for about 10!

10x turnover is not needed in most tanks. Many of my tanks run ~3x turnover.

I'd add an Aquaclear 110 filter, as it will be better at mech filtration. A small powerhead to keep detritus off the bottom will help keep the tank clearer, so long as you keep up on cleaning the AC110's foam.

ac110 for sure.

I'd just run another Emp. 400.

I agree with some of the people above. Depending on your budget, and since you already have a emp 400, I would add a canister. An XP2, or a XP3 would be even better.

I know most people say that "there is no such thing as too much filtration" but a emp400 and a FX5 on a 55g tank is a waste of filtration IMO. There is no need for that much...

On my 55g I had a single XP3, I just added an old whisper 3 that I had laying around in the closet just to put it to use. Im only stocking a solo piranha however.
