55 gallon fish tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You might even want to go with two slightly smaller Aquaclears. That way you have water movement throughout the whole tank not just on one side. It will cost slightly more but thats just my opinion. If you do I would recommend the Aquaclear 70. The AC 110 will give you 500 GPH while having two AC 70s will give you 600 GPH (300 each)

In case you don't know what GPH means its stands for Gallons Per Hour. I personally would go for the pair of AC 70's not only does if it give you what I said earlier but it also means that if you ever decide to...ohhh I don't know...say switch to a monster:naughty: LOL you won't need to buy another filter.

I'm actually switching my 55 over from a Oscar tank to a "community" tank, although it might only be stocked with Tiger Barbs. They are usually considered community fish but are slightly nippy to long finned fish like male bettas ( Siamese Fighting Fish )

I also second on getting the 75 gallon, you will be open to MUCH more choices in fish. I regret not buying a 75 instead of my 55, but live and learn. Don't make my mistake! Plus you might even get addicted and want another tank :D

Here are the two filters we were told are good: Marine Land 350 or Emperor

What about a water heater?

Thanks all for helping me figure this out!! It can get a little confusing!

I LOVE

I have stealth heaters also and they are okay but prefer the jager heaters.

I use them in my outside small tropical fish pvc ponds Dec to March and night temps can drop to low 50s not often but it happens and the heaters hold the temp exactly as set.

In theory the head isnt submersible but Co that makes them told me they are. either way IMO great heaters . They are going on 2 years now of being used outside during winter (night temps average 60s but cold spells can go low 50s) and no complaints.

Oh by the way I agree with all a 75 is GREAT. I Have 55 but should have just gone with 75 .

I regret not buying a 75 instead of my 55

Me to which is why now I take my time look into things even fish in this forum before buying .

I was going to go with 125 gallon soon but looking into house with lake right in "backyard" so opted to wait on anything over 55 gallons.

well I think my hubby and I are leaning now towards the 75 gallon. So now just trying to figure out all the filters and heater stuff.

Thanks all for your help!!!

Okay Gang!!

My husband and I went and look at an almost new 75 gallon tank and all wood stand at someone house, He has a power 900 and ugf system in it currently. We will, if we get it; change the ugf system to a HOB filtration system, but I am unsure with all that glass on top where would it go? Does anyone out there have a 75 gallon tank with glass on top and if so how do you put the hob fiteration system on it.

Sorry to sound so dumb but just unsure!!!! Anyone out there with thoughts, ideas, or suggestions please post!!!

Thanks again gang you are the best!!
