How would an angel or 2 work??
or possibly Uaru

no angels would get beat up.... IMO i would leave it alone.... maybe get a EBJD and keep for a year then sell it

I doubt i could get a EBJD they are quite expensive and I have only seen them quite small like less than 2 inches, would the uaru work for a bit since all fish in the tank (excluding the bichir) are 3 inches or less, and it would only be temporary till the other fish grow a bit more

yeah they are expensive i think the urau would work but your upgrading right?

Leave it as is, your tank is going to look crowded when everything is getting closer to full size, at least that's my opinion.

I've had no luck with Firemouths also, only fish I've ever lost, and 3 of them at that, 2 of which were a breeding pair.

Recommending or considering Uaru is a bad idea and bad advice, they're best kept in a proper pair, or unpaired trio at minimum, and certainly wouldn't fit in a 55 with the current stocking.

I wont be upgrading for awhile since I am 15 and still living at home, my only upgrade will be if my father gets a tank, but it will take alot of convincing for him to get some of the bigger fish.

Ok so the Uaru is a bad idea?

I think I will try another firemouth, a convict, or if I can find one another Bichir

But also taking away if you dont like the looks of the blood parrot would it work? I want a different looking fish.

ok don't listen to other people on they're opinions on how the fish LOOKS...if you like and it will work then get it...yes, a BP would work and so would a uaru. anything that gets less than 8" would work...you can try a delhezi, EBJD, BP, uaru, some geo's, or you could try a severum maybe. just some thoughts

thanks, I think I will go to the LFS tomorrow and take a look to see what they have, EBJD or Delhezi and if they do not have them (doubt they will) a Uaru and if they dont have Uaru's anymore I will probably stop off and get a BP on the way home at another LFS

Bad advice, he already has what most responsible fishkeepers would consider a 'well' stocked tank, recommending some of the fish you have is just poor form.

As I've already stated, Uaru are a shoaling fish and are at bare minimum required to be kept as a compatible pair, or in a trio. An EBJD will easily overstock the tank, a smaller species of Geophagus may work, like Araguaia or Pindare but I would highly recommend against it. I know nothing about Blood Parrots because they're horrific. I'd also consider Severums too large.

Though I'm unfamiliar with Birchir because they're not exactly common in Australia, a 14" fish will not work in a 55Gal with a GT.

I'm not trying to be the stocking police but I feel it needs to be said. If you absolutely feel compelled to getting another fish, I'd try another Firemouth, or any of the ~6" reasonably aggressive Cichlids that could hold their own against a ~11" full sized GT, perhaps another Convict of the same sex or an Acara.

Just for added information the GT is female so will not get as big as a male
