I was given a 55 gallon planted tank yesterday and all but 2 neon's were lost in the move:(. The neon's will be moved to a 30 gallon tank where there are 5 in that tank already. I have no idea what to stock this tank with. I was thinking of doing a African cichlid tank but I really do not know to much about them. I need some suggestion on what to do with this tank and getting rid of the plants is an option. There are two penguin 200 filters going on the tank also. I want color in the tank and it to be active. That stupid big rock in there I want to keep because it is a pain to take out. Please give me some ideas! 012.JPG011.JPG010.JPG009.JPG008.JPG007.JPG006.JPG

nice avatar cyberhog! Destroying the live plants is not a big deal since they look like they are doing so well. Any other ideas since rainbows will have to be ordered in my area.

I would do angels and/or discus. That would be really pretty.

Angels would look good in there 5-6 in a 55 sounds about right. General rule: Cichlids tank + planted tank = cichlids tank

General rule: Cichlids tank + planted tank = cichlids tank

There are many cichlids that are suitable to live in a planted tank and will not cause harm to the plants. Keyholes, curviceps, convict-types, EBJD, apistogramma, pelvicachromis and pelmatochromis, angels and discus are just a few examples of cichlids that are fine in planted tanks.

Discus or angels :)
