I'm sure its been posted and I did search but I could not find anything on what I could house for life in a 55g tank. I am in the process of building up a 260 and the fish in it now will go to the 260. I convinced my wife to keep it "Which is a miracle in its self" and I'd like to get her some fish that can be lifers in the tank. She likes fire mouths but there should not be more than one in a 55g correct? Thanks in advance MFK

Angel community tank :D

LOL that is my answer to everything

My 55 has an Angel pair, Bolivian Rams, tetras, corys, a pleco, and oto cats

fire mouths arernt terribly mean, so you could get away with a few in a 55g tank, with good filtration and some real/fake plants and places to hide. you may have a few scales fly here or there, as is normal with cichlids, but doubtful you would have a major issue.

otherwise, theres convicts, rams, angels, africans, apistos, the usual community fish (platys, guppys, mollies, teras) could also do one or two fancy goldfish with good filtration and steady WC's.

theres many, many options. what are you going for?? personality, looks, planted tank, bare tank? narrow it down for us a little bit there buddy :D

I have a suggestion...

It begins with a "P", and ends with "olypterus". :D

A couple senegalus would be great.

you could get a few firemouths if you add lots of hiding spots.

Show your wife German Blue Rams. Get a planted tank with those and cardinal tetras. :D

Now that is a great idea!! Perhaps a Delhezi to go along with the sens, although next thing you know that big tank may get a couple of lower jaws.

Well right now I have a Fluval 305 and another bio-wheel type filter rated for 50 gallons so I think my filtration would be adequate. I like the look of the blue rams... Her favorite color is blue, so i might HAVE to lean that way haha... Right now I am going for look/ease as this is her tank "Although, ill end up taking care of it " The polypterus looks awesome though.... Could it live in a 55g for life?

ETA: It has black substrate with red rock tossed in to break it up

My firemouth is a mean little SOB. Makes my Con look like a little girl.. but then again she is.
