The polypterus looks awesome though.... Could it live in a 55g for life?

There's different types of polys... senegals, palmas, and delhezi don't get to big.

Well right now I have a Fluval 305 and another bio-wheel type filter rated for 50 gallons so I think my filtration would be adequate. I like the look of the blue rams... Her favorite color is blue, so i might HAVE to lean that way haha... Right now I am going for look/ease as this is her tank "Although, ill end up taking care of it " The polypterus looks awesome though.... Could it live in a 55g for life?

ETA: It has black substrate with red rock tossed in to break it up

If you find quality blue rams, theres few fish that are as stunning as them. Rams make one of the best fish for "show" tanks IMO, as their colored and marked so beautifully. And as long as you feed good foods, and do WC's every single week, they will thrive and are basically easy to care for.

the only downside to rams ive noticed....they have a relatively short life. Longest one lived for me was 4 years i think

I'm sure its been posted and I did search but I could not find anything on what I could house for life in a 55g tank. I am in the process of building up a 260 and the fish in it now will go to the 260. I convinced my wife to keep it "Which is a miracle in its self" and I'd like to get her some fish that can be lifers in the tank. She likes fire mouths but there should not be more than one in a 55g correct? Thanks in advance MFK

I agree with some of the other posters, we should try a planted community tank. That one display at DNA gets me thinking about doing one everytime I go in there. Rams are cool little fish too.

I really do not want a planted tank.... I have never been a big fan. I guess when the time comes I'll sit down and think of what could call that tank home :)
