55 Gallon Reef In Progress

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
occellaris can be quite picky on their anemone. I believe that in the wild, they cost one of the carpet anemones. However, I dont recommend these to anyone. I have personally seen them host bubble tips on many occasions and that is the only anemone that I suggest a hobbyist to purchase.

ps the light fixture you purchased will be fine but the bulbs that come with them are terrible and should be replaced asap at least within 5-6 months.

Thanks for the good info! I had heard bubble tips, but I had also heard not bubble tips. I figured that it was just either ocells being picky or not suitable for any anemone. Thanks though :)

I heard that about the bulbs, too. I do plan on replacing those more towards December or so.

By the way, excuse the fibers in the pics. Occured after I had cleaned my filter, hopefully gonna siphon most of them out during the next water change.

Been a while since I've posted, huh? :P

Just got my new lights two nights ago. They look awesome, I must say. Overall performance is excellent, only time will tell how durable it is. I'll get pics posted up asap.

However, I do have a question about keeping corals and anemone. I plan on getting my water quality in check as well as getting several more pieces of live rock in to finish up getting ready for a coral or two. I have two 250watt metal halides, one on each side of the tank. How often do the metal halides need to be on for any corals/anemone? I plan on keeping the blue actinics (54 watts each, 4 of them) on from 6pm to 2am every day, but no clue what times I should put the metal halides on and for how long. Tried looking some stuff up, but can't really see any defined answers.

What lights did you get?
