Today I got the brace cut an installed. I've been going back and forth on whether or not to add a brace but I figured I had better cover my ass on this one So I cut a brace out of 1/4" glass I had on hand.
Here is the piece freshly cut. Sorry this one didn't look blurry on my camera till I blew it up. Seems my camera focused on the carpet and not the clear glass. Go figure.
Found my glass edge polisher so I spent some time smoothing off the edges so I don't shave myself every time I reach into the tank.
Marked out the center of the tank and marked it out then placed the brace in place and used a rubber faced clamp to apply enough pressure for it not to wander around. I cut it tight enough that it was floating in place with no clamp but if you blew on it the brace would slide. Perfect fit.
Different angle as its not to visible from the front.
Then I gooped on some GE 1. Did a little finger painting. Its not that pretty right now but I was mostly concerned with it getting into the joint well. I'll clean up the excess with a razor blade after its cured.
Now I get to wait for the silicone to cure up then I'll add my sand and some water and start filtering it can get it all decorated under the water level. After that it is time to figure out what I'm gonna do for the upper end of the tank.
