I'll have to see about getting a cleaner shrimp.

I'm using the liquid API Reef Master Test Kit, so the results should be accurate considering that I follow the instructions exactly.

Did you add in any new rock? I once added in a large piece of rock that was SUPPOSEDLY live and it ended up killing 2 of my fish. Anything new you did right before the fish started getting ick?

No, I haven't added any new live rock to the main aquarium since January. However, the new fish (the two three spot domino damselfish and the two stripe damselfish) were just added 3/4/2011, and we've already lost the two three spot domino damselfish.

How was their condition? I still find it odd that with good water conditions ick would take over the fish which are already there. I remember seeing somewhere that you've been dosing stuff for your corals. Did you check those levels?

They looked fine when we picked them out at the LFS. We haven't seen signs of ich on any of the other fish, but we're quarantining all of them now just to be safe so that any ich that remains in the main aquarium can die off before reintroducing all of the fish.

We don't have any corals yet, but we've been adding calcium and strontium supplements according to the instructions on the bottles after doing major water changes in order to keep those levels up for when we do add the coral.

First off, not sure what you mean by "perfect levels" for your water??? Can't imagine that your nitrates are at 0, among other things.

There is a lot more to it than water quality too.

That is a lot of constantly stressed out fish that will eventually start acting on that stress by fighting/killing other inhabitants which sounds like it is already taking place some. As the daily stress continues you are most likely shortening the lifespan for all the fish.

There is a big difference between a tank that is properly stocked with multiple fish and the setup you have. Sadly, you are probably going to end up with a tank with 1 or 2 fish in it when all is said and done, even with them all in a 120(still would be overstocked).

I strongly encourage you not to get more fish, it is just a death wish for all the inhabitants.

my definition of perfict water conditions are ammonia 0, nitrite 0, and nitrate below 10. what are your "other things"? i don't buff cause the fish would be more stressed from the changing ph then if there was a constant level. i also add addtives by kent to the tank like essential elements for example.

i am wondering were you see that they are under stress from fighting/killing? my triggers are the only things that go back and forth some times, but it is not serious or often. if there was a problem with them fighting i would remove the agressor. everything is not bothered by anything(other then what i stated already). all my fish are eatting well and growing well. the only fish that isn't doing great is my yellow tang, but as you already know it was from a falling rock and not an attack.

i just find it hard to beleve that you only see failure were i am succeding. it may not work with this mixture in every tank, but there is 100% zero issue with it in my tank. my 120gal will have more rock, more filtration/flow with more powerheads and a 55gal sump. time will tell, and if it starts to show that it wont work i wont have dead fish, but some fish that will be given a house to themselves. people just need to relise that i am not 12 and i will/ have done what it takes for my fish to be healthy. eg. the 120gal most likely is not the last stop for the fish in my collection, but another grow out for a future setup.

not meaning to derail the op's thread, but i hate been talked to like i am 12 cause belive it or not i do know what i am doing and i have reasurched all my fish. aswell as any fish i think of getting.

are you sure the new arrivals are not being killed by the fish you've had...? Damsels from my experience are extremely aggressive and territorial, it sounds like a no brainer that the original fish of an already overcrowded tank would not take kindly to a few more damsels in their territory... granted I am not watching the tank to see but it seems like the most likely scenario

I doubt that territorial aggression was the problem. Only the one damsel was being aggressive, and it was chasing every fish, new or old, that got near it's section of live rock. I doubt that they were killed by that fish because it pursued all of the fish for the same amount of time if the got too close to its hiding place in the main aquarium. They are all pretty passive now that they are in the hospital aquarium, which is another reason that I'm ruling out aggressive tankmates in favor of disease for the killer.
