aqualoon could you give me some more information about the tang community such as like if they require different PH than normal tropical fish?

They require a high ph/kh.

To the OP, if you can fit a 55 gallon, you can fit a 75 or a 90. Almost guaranteed. The width of a 55 is really restricting. I got my 90 setup for $100 used, plenty of deals out there.

A single GT female might work out same goes for Severums. CA/SA cichlids need their space where as Africans do better crowded.

Also there is a large difference size wise between them so a 55g would work out better with Africans in my opinion. That's not to say that there aren't any CA/SA cichlids that could work in a 55g, but just the ones you listed are kind of pushing it for a single fish setup.

What about certain texas cichlids such as like a green terror and sevrums?

Once again, not in a 55. Will do fine in a 90 gallon. Best not to mix CA and SA cichlids IMO. Pick a theme and stick with it (mostly).

Agreed, and CA/SA stocking options really open up with the extra width of the 75/90 setups.

But if you like Africans then a 55g will be just fine.

Excellent thank you so much for the information it's greatly appreciated :D again this is way in the future so I have a lot of time to think about everything :)
