If I had a 55, it would have a pair of Salvini in it, and failing that, if I wanted a wet pet, it would be a Texas, even though it would need every inch of that take nearing full size.

How about a trio of one of the smaller Geophagus species, Pindare, Araguaia/Tapajos, Steindachneri, etc? If I didn't have Eartheaters in my main display tank that's what I'd do. Need to try and convert some of the people around here away from the typical 'aggressive' big Americans.
 
I'm going to say a GT or a Texas cichlid.

+1 on making sure that tank holds water too.
Set it up in your garage and fill it. I'd let it sit there for at least a week...

I'd imagine you'd want to clean the hell out of it too.
 
Here is what I would currently do with a 55. Paint the background black, create a minimalistic landscape, add GT and some type(s) of smaller catfish, done. A nice and healthy GT is absolutely stunning with the proper lighting and setup. They are definitely a "wow" fish when people walk in the room.

Ok Paper is my bro... Yester day I striped the old fram off cleaned it. To day i got new Pre-fited Frame I need Silicone thoug >.< I am going to silicone the Frame on and re-silicon it. So if I can get that done tonight will it be ready to fill Sunday night?
 
well, if its just the top frame, then really, you could fill it an hour or two after you silicon it. Still do it in the garage for sure though.. and keep it a few inches away from the top.. I would think that the water pressing on the glass would pinch the silicone between the glass and the frame, and allow it to seal quite well... might cause some oozing though... dont know.
