55 gallon stocking

Hi everyone, i will be getting a new 55 this weekend and would like to stock it with as many small to perhaps some medium cichlids any suggestions would be great.

Salvinis, Fire Mouths, Cons, Geophagus...not all those together but you could create a stocklist with maybe one of the other or you maybe could get away with 3 but you would definately need to upgrade to at least a 4'x18" footprint tank within a year depending on growth.

good ideas everyone. is it possible for 6 fms in a 55 for life??

Since FMs grow to six inches, it's a crap shoot. Might be crowded. I like to take a measuring tape to my tank and try to visualize the size of the fish with the size of the tank. Also, with a group that size, you'd probably end up with breeding pair(s) which would lead to a LOT of aggression. Fms are kind of hard to sex, too.

you can keep 6 fms in a 55 no problem they only grow to 6 inches theyll be fine

I bought 4 firemouthes last night.there is one that is really bullying the others,im either going to keep one and add con,gt or keep all four and maybe add one cant decide.
