55 shell dwellers setup

I'm going to set up a 55 for a colony of shell dwellers. I have a few questions which species should I look into im looking for color and easiness to breed and will the fry be able to live in the same tank if their are other shell dwellers?

Occies have the most color. All shellies are easy to breed. Adults of other species will eat the fry. Usually you only have one species of shell dweller/tank but you could add a rock dweller and cyps.

Tanyanyikan cichlids that swim high up in the tank like sardines. Cyprichromis.

Alright I'll look into them. Where's the best place to find them and is pool filter sand fine for the shell dwellers?
