red belly piranhas
These are not suitable for a 55g especially as these prefer to be in groups due to their skittish nature.

It doesn't matter what fish you get for your tank as long as they are big enough to not get eaten by all those bichirs you're gonna stick in there.

:D

razzle dazzle

i would do a west africa biotope, ropefish, butterfly fish, congo tetras, leopard centapomas, upside-down cats

3 red tail barracuda/3 hujeta and a sengal bichir. They may out grow it in 6-8 years.

you could look into Africans, there are a ton of options with them. How aggressive would you want to do, what kind of attitude would you want for the tank?

Personally I have Peacocks and I love them, they are beautiful fish with great personality and enough aggression to keep it interesting but not bad enough to make it difficult.

Like I said though, there are a ton of options. Haps, Peacocks, Psuedo, the list goes on and on.

Good luck choosing!

Even with adequate filtration and good water quality, I think it's pretty unfair to put a potentially 12"+ fish in a 48X13 tank. Generally a good rule of thumb for normally shaped fish (it can be relaxed with long, slender fish) is to have the shortest horizontal side be about twice as long as the length of fish (So preferably about 24" or more for a red devil, oscar, etc.)

I guess you're right. A 48X18 tank wouldn't be that bad for a RD, but only 13 deep is a little small.
