always wanted to get Amatitlania nanolutea, that might be cool. Anybody have experience with them?
I've kept A nanoltea, and found 4 tolerated each other well in a 75.

This is the only Central American cichlid, that I believe might work as 2 pairs in a 55, and some dithers, long term.
Dwarf S Americans, and small rift lake Africans, also, no problem.
The difference is that both the S Americans, and R L Africans come from naturally crowded, species diverse cichlid areas in nature, and have evolved to live among and with many of those cichlid species,.
But, most Central Americans are from less diverse and crowded areas, and are very territorial, and space conscious.
At the moment I keep Andinoacara coerleopunctatus (close Central American cousin to regular blue acaras).
I started with about 12 wild caught juvies and put them together in a 180 gal tank.
By the end of the first year, the alpha male, killed all other males, and a few females.
Today there are 3 females, and the male left, with tetras as dithers (which he ignores).
Seems he feels that, these are the most cichlid tank mates he will tolerate in the 6 ft 180 gal tank.

It really doesn't; really matter what I think is enough cichlids per size tank, or anyone else believes is proper.
Its all about what the dominant cichlid instinctually feels is enough space that he finds tolerable, or important.

Are the Amatitlania nanolutea as pretty as they look in all the picks I see or are those outliers? Also how big do they really get?

With a proper water change routine, and pellet high in Spirulina, and other algae their colors are quite striking.
I fed NLS Algaemax (and pellets meant for herbivorous marine fish), and on average did 30%-40% water changes every other day on their tank
