Yeah. what about the canopy? Would you just get some piece of acrylic or leave it open? Perhaps egg crate?

You are correct tube would be better but almost as heavy as the tank. In the correct configuration aluminum is just as strong with the advantage of being lighter.

How thick is the acrylic and how old is the tank? Look for crazing and splitting.

My opinion is start fresh and build exactly what you want. There seems to be too much work and expense to get this up and running.

I hope your buddies are of the muscular persuasion, and that you have suction cups, dollies, and have a solid moving plan.

Very near the same dimensions and thickness as my glass tank not nearly as bad to move as you think mind you I see stairs in those photos. If your building a stand with plenty of bracing consider sump access. Who ever built my stand no room at all!
