hey there. my grandma has a 55 gallon bowfront that she might give me now that the last of her fish died and she doesn't want to set it up again. was wondering if anyone had any ideas for what i might put in there if i decided to set it up anytime soon. currently have a rhinoceros pleco which would probably go in there, but besides that i've got nothin. just curious if anyone had any good ideas :] thanks!!

yeah, there are a bunch of cichlids i like. i was thinking that's a definite possibility. the thing is, i tend to like a few larger fish over a bunch of smaller fish [easier to keep track of, and they seem more like a pet than a decoration], but a lot of smaller fish does tend to look nicer. used to have an oscar in my current 55, and he was just starting to get real big [before he lodged himself into a piece of driftwood and died when i was gone overnight one time], and you'd look in and see the plants and driftwood and then out of the blue would come this big ol' monster fish! he was beautiful, though i don't think i'd wanna do another oscar right now

yes big fish do tend to look better than a lot of smaller fish to some people and a (oscar is to big for a 55 fyi) although i have no idea what the minimum gallon size piranhas have but you might be able to have one or two of them in there but id do some research on them or anyfish before doing anything

of course, i always research any fish i plan on getting before i get it. i only had the oscar in the 55 for grow out. i had a 75 setup for him to go into about a month from when he died [he was only about six inches at that point], and a 125 in reserve if i needed it [have since gotten rid of both tanks], and like i said i am not looking to get an oscar for this one.

okay well i was just checking but you could do anything you want in that tank i cant really think of anything but cichlids right now

lol yeah not a problem :] i was just curious if anyone had any ideas for it, though i'm sure i can think up some as well. it's always better to have more though!! thanks for the input!

argh, can't edit that first post! i'll just add it here then and hope someone sees it. just wanted to add that any more bottom-dwellers is out as baracus [my pleco] is a slime sucker, no matter how much food i have in ther for him
