Just out of curiosity, is discus keeping as bad as some people say, or is it only really breeding them that's really difficult?
its not hard at all. they just need freshwater. constant water changes. there like anyfish, you need to adhere to the waters they like. the most important thing besides water quality that people forget about is temperature

yeah, keeping them isn't hard. Breeding is the real hard thing to do, its hard to see a fish is male or females, and if I'm not wrong, discus is very loyal to their mate; when fish mature, they find their mate and live together until one die!

thats not necesasarly true. i had a pair for 5 years until the female died of old age. (she was 12!)and about three months he paired up with a pigeon blood.

here they are. the blue fish is the male and pigeon is female

Sure they are hard to keep, if you believe the old myths and dogma. Captive bred discus are like any other tropical fish; give them warm, clean water, good food, and keep up with regular and constant water changes and they'll be happy. Lots of folks said they same thing about wild discus. I just got my first batch of wild discus. Got them in straight tap water and they're as happy as could be :)
