so i kinda have the stocking out of the way i might go with a mixed mbuna tank with yellow labs, aceis, and red zebras. or i might go with a species tnak with kenyi sense they are so easy to sex.

The red zebra and kenyi are very aggressive, though I have never kept them in a 55g.

IME, acei get too big for a 55.

Yellow labs are a good choice.

Those are the 4 cichlids i have in my 55 and they are all doing fine. Just make sure they are close to the same size, because I had a couple small ones that got killed.

well i began my stocking to day and i decided ( drumroll please) to go with Auratus cichlid tank!! i got 4 female today and one is already starting to change color to a dark blue im guessing its changing its gender( im hoping). i want to be an successful auratus cichlid breeder. so can anyone tell me how long it will take for them to change gender?

i have a 120 setup right now going to a 210 as soon as i can finish my new setup.
i have to start with was three gresheki not sure on that spelling but now i have about 25 or so out of those first three within three months but this fish are almost grown. then i have two maingonos again not sure of that spelling. but both of those have breed an i have four or five of there off spring in there an the female looks to be holding now. i had two bumble bees but one of them killed the pitch black male that i had but the one that survived is real bright yellow with real dark stripes. then i have two kenyi in the tank a male an a female i think. they havent breed yet but i figure its probly just a matter of time. then i have one blue cobalt. two electric blue johanni. two plecos an a yellow auratious not sure on that spelling. but i have had no problems except the loss of the bumble bee the gresheki runs the tank the others bicker every now an then but not to bad. actually a pretty tame tank. seeing that all of the fish i listed are aggressive fish. an i have java fern an some valsneria an it is doing ok of course they do take notions to attack the lants but leave it alone for the most part. i hope this helps a little i have the tank decorated as close to a rock river bottom or lake. good luck with the tank try to post some pics if posssible.i will see if i can get one of mine up to show you how its decorated.also im limited to pretty much what i have because the lfs realy doesnt have that much to choose from. but im planning to do some shop ping by mail to further my tank

thanks all i havnt been online ina while as you can tell, i had to switch back over to gravel as the sand was messing up my fliter. i might go back to it in the future but i will use a canister insead of an impeller. the gravel looks very nice though. i also took out the bricks and put 5 large to mid sized river rocks in too. im gonna add more to my tank. the aficans so far are enjoying their transfer from their cramped 15 to 20 gallon tank at the lfs to the large and open 55 gallon in my room. ive added 2 new africans to the mix- 2 yellowed tailed aceis. i believe i have a male and a female because one is dark and kinda aggressive and the other one is kinda pale colorish. i wanna try to add 2 or three more females to even out the aggression. the golden mbuna or auratus cichlids that i have are from just under an inch long to one inch and a half for those who were wondering in the previous questions. ill have pics of the tank up soon so keep close to this thread for me lol
