Would this potential stock list work for a 55g?
5 TRUE pictus catfish (only get 4-5in)
1 festivum
1 firemouth
1 blue acara (or other rarer acara)
1 curviceps
1 pair keyhole cichlid
1 pair/group small geos OR gymnogeos
Red eye tetras (or other medium size tetra)
Thanks!

I don't think that would work because cichlid need territories and you could fit two territories maybe three if your tank is 4 ft long but interns of cichlids you could do firemouth and festivum or firemouth and keyhole. Also a good dither Is tiger barbs you could have about six .

Gymnogeos need a cool down period that non of the other fish can handle so those won't work in this tank.

Too many fish..one or two cichlids is what I would do

Well on cichlid-forums.com it has cookie cutter 55g set ups, and one is 1 pair angels, 1 pair festivum, 4 keyhole cichlids. Thats 8 fish and 3 or 4 pairs, and my understanding is that cichlids are much more territorial when they are paired and breeding. My list gives me 8 fish as well, but only 2 pairs.

My main concern was the firemouth and acara being more aggressive than some others. I think the firemouth would probably be ok, but Im unsure about the acara. If I did go the route of gymnos I am aware they need a cool down and have a tank they could go into for it.

More to consider than just aggression such as wc to remove nitrates once rhey are all full grown. Inwould trust qhat the more experienced guys say (not myself) over a cookie cutter listing

I'm thinking of this instead:

1 Festivum
1 Firemouth
1 Curviceps
1 pair Keyholes
1 Pair Bolivian rams
Large group of peppered corys
Red eye tetras or Buenis Aires tetras

Did you read what jackdempsey72 wrote ? Think along those lines

I think you're better off with just 2 kinds of cichlids because of the aggression you will encounter later on when they mature.

This could work. Gonna come down to the temperment of the Firemouth, but it's not like you have any real 'killers' there.
