55g Stocking?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How many inches per month is he growing? IME, they usually grow about an inch a month. So do the math. When are you getting the 125g? Also, glad you were able to finally find them a home.

Well mine isn't nearly full grown. It's probably about 3.5". :grinno: But I read up that they only get about 20cm full grown. I guess I was given false information.
You weren't given false information, you failed to look into it fully. Depending on how you feed it, take care of it, and house it cleanly and suitably will determine the growth rate. By the sound of everything, i feel bad for the little thing..

How did I fail to look into it fully? Every page that I've looked at says that a Carpintis grows to ~8" fully. And my fish is very well taken care of. I check the pH frequently, do 25% water changes weekly, and make sure he has a varied diet. Stop being such an elitist.

And to Midas, I should be getting a 125g within a couple months. So the carpintis should only be about 7" by the time I get one.

what r u going to put in the 55 when u get the 125 tank?

what the heck is wrong with some people? the guy is asking for advice, and someone getting on his case - - calling him a loser? - - doesn't help

as noted, if you have a "Carpintis", then you have a Green Texas, which will grow to about 6-10", depending if it is a female or male (maybe add an inch or two for some specimens, or if what you have is a "true" Texas (cyanaguttatus)

at that size, a 55G is potentially too small, because it is only about 13" wide, so the fish has limited room to turn around . . . but you already said you will be moving it to a 220G

what I would do is re-post this question once you get the fish into the 220G, at which point you will get a whole new batch of opinionated advice

could you post a picture of the fish? might help people figure out if you have carpintis or cyanaguttatus, for example . . .

Sab_fan for the win.

Seriously, calling him a loser for doing the right thing by re-housing his Oscars? Personally, I applaud your maturity ibz_rg. However, whether it's a female or male, it would be best kept alone.
