55g tank stocking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
oh ok, so how does this sound?
-3 ropefish
-1 polypterus palmas ( i doubt it could handle a whole ropefish)
- 1 jaguar catfish
are there any mid level fish besides JDs that wouldnt be too agressive?

Yeah, I have nixed the idea of a JD already.... new proposed stocking:
- 2 polypterus palmas
- 6 Leopard Ctenopoma
- 2 synodontis Njassae
- 6 african butterfly fish
The rope fish would get too expensive with the larger quantity

Gill, correct me if I'm wrong but I have always heard that a 55 is the minimum for a Bichir (excluding the larger species) with the width of a 75 making that size preferable.

I won't keep a 12"-13" fish in a tank that's only 12" wide. they may be able to live like that, but I don't consider that good fishkeeping. so while some might consider 18" width "preferable" I consider in necessary.

fair enough, i respect your desire to keep animals in large enclosures, but in this case, the animal has a lot of length in the tank in which he could stretch out, and plenty of room to turn around.

Soooo what if I put one in a tank that's 10 feet wide and 6 inches deep? Then it'd be like an antfarm! You'd always see it's side profile! Bahaha. I kid.

I have a 7 inch JD that doesn't seem to want to get along with ANYTHING. I came to this thread in search of others' tankmates. I gave him a 5" convict and he didn't so much as SNIFF him at first, but progressively got more aggressive with him to the point he was trying to take chunks out of him within a half hour. I put a 5" golden pleco in and he terrorized that poor thing until I took it out too. What gives? Is this guy destined to be alone forever? lol.
