55g tankmates for a Gold Saum

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah single in a 55gal would be fine for life
only a plec or similar cat
and possibly a few dithers giant danios or tiger barbs
that would be it but
definitely only one cichlid

Personally I don't think a 55 is big enough for a GT. Mine is in a 75, it pretty much ignores its tankmates. 4 giant danios, a striped raphael cat and a P. delhezi.

you will stunt the growth of that GT if you plan on keepin him in there for life........i'f go with a smaller fish as your main one if you only have a 55gal.......what about a pair of Firemouths or Salvini or Blue Acara or hell you could do like 4-5 discus and then some neons that would looks sick and you wouldn't be over stockin the tank well mabe a couple less of the discus. but still you can't do a pair of GT's in a 55 even one by himself...think about it his tank is what 12" deep and they can get over 12" do you really wanna do that to him. i just hope you plan on up grading befor he's 10"

Most GT's I have seen are in the 10" range. I don't see many beasts that go 12-14" and IF they do go that length, everything I have seen posted on these forums suggests that it takes at least 5 years for them to achieve such a size. If his turns out to be a female, it'll likely 8-10". I would have no issues housing a GT in a 55gallon for life. If it happened to grow to a freakishly larger size however, I would certainly upgrade.. but I'd have a few years on that option from what other monster GT owners have posted.
