55g "Wet Pet" Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Right, I hear you. I'm not new to aquariums, and I'm familiar with water changes. I'm not afraid of them, just don't want to put myself in a position where I have to do several per week.
I agree with you, several water changes in a week sounds horrible lol takes the enjoyment of the fish away and becomes one of house chores....not fun

That’s why I always understock my tanks, life happens and sometimes you have to skip a water change

Right! So, my goal is always to have a full looking tank without having a crazy maintenance schedule. I have aquariums because I enjoy watching my fish, not because I enjoy working on the tank.

Plecos and bichirs aren't always a problem, it's just somethihng to keep in mind. Many poly keepers house successfully them together while keeping watch Common plecos are apparently the biggest offenders for slime sucking. I've kept bichirs with both a BN pleco and L075 without issue.

If you wanted to consider the bichir I agree with albino sen or regular senegal. Then just keep an eye out. If your pleco is well-fed there very well might not be a problem.

This sounds promising; thanks for sharing! So, if I do go this route, and I see the Pleco on the Bichir, do I definitely have a problem, or is there something extra I need to look for? Sorry if that's a silly question, but I'm brand new to Bichirs, so I don't know much yet. Until your message, I had pretty much written the Bichir off because it was starting to seem like a bad idea. Yes, I would go witg one of the Senegal Bichirs, as they seem to be the only type that would stay small enough for my tank.

I'm also still contemplating the schooling fish that I put into the tank. I was completely set on the Rainbows, as these are really what I'd love to have in the tank. However, if it's really risky, I may consider something else. My other choice would be some type of Barb, but I don't know if these would be any less of a risk than the Rainbows. Any thoughts?

Hello, again. Ok, new direction for my 55. No more Green Terror, or Bichir. I believe I'm going to put my Severum in there. I know some don't agree with a Severum in a 55, but I've seen several accounts of it working well. Mine is still small at around 3", and at least so far is very docile. I'll keep the Phantom Pleco in the tank, a Rainbow Shark, and some dithers.
