look at getting a used 75 gal... that is the way to go IMO

i have a 55 and it is so limited on what to keep in it :irked:

Put an add in the local paper, hit some garaage sales, and start asking around. You would be surprised how many tanks are sitting in basements collecting dust. I bet you could find a used 55 or 75 locally that someone will almost give away. I got a 55 gallon with stand, lights, gravel, decor, filters for $50 bucks not too long ago. I then found a 75 for the same price...good luck!

I was in the same boat as you a few years ago. I went with the 55gallon and regretted it, because sure you WILL be pumped that you have this new tank, and this new fish. But in a few months you will feel unsatisfied, especially if you stay on this site! Reading about all these huge tanks, and monster fish! You'll be thinking "shoulda went with a 75" and then if you are anything like me, you'll go out and get that damn 75! Honestly, go for a used 75, it would be cheaper than a new 55gal, if moneys an issue. and with used tanks you generally get some sort of filtration with it, where as if you buy from you lfs (around here anyways) you can buy tank, stand, light, canopy set, but you have to buy heaters and filtration seperatly, and filtration isnt cheap.

Sorry for blah blah blahing my way through this post, i'll shut up now :) Just one more thing..

GO FOR THE 75!

Another way to look at it is, with a 75 you can actually decorate the tank and not have to worry about enough open area swimming room not to mention some O's do get to 16 inchs! and a 16 inch fish has NO chance in turning in a 12 inch wide tank. You can also add something to go in with him, in the 55 he's alone completly, no plecos, nothing, but in the 75 you could add a convict or something if you wanted. Also a great site for fish information is www.oscarfish.com there LOADS of info on oscars and they will all advise you to get a 75 as well.
