Getting a 55 gallon and plan on stocking it as follows:

1 Dempsey or Green terro
5 Silver Dollars

Thoughts?

My wife is worried it will be boring (relatively few fish) but I think the SD's will keep it interesting and the JD/GT will add personality.

I've seen people get away with 2 jacks in a 55gal. I normally wouldn't suggest it. Convicts go well with them and they stay relatively small compared to the jacks or terror. The Green Terror I wouldn't suggest unless you got another tank to but it in when it is getting close to full grown. The 55gal will be too small. A good setup (decor, plants, rocks) I've found really make more of a difference with adding more interest to the tank, rather than the amount of fish.

i just got sds and ther great to watch when ther feeding, ya some might find them boring but i call it peacefull

Totally agree. It's nice to have a tank where you don't have stress about every single fish having a death sentence towards eachother.

No that is overstocked. you could do a Fire mouth and 5 silver dollars tough. A convict and some silver dollars would be nice too.

Thinking about it the SD may not be the best tetras for a 4' tank. I had 4 in a 72g and they would hit the sides of the tank when spooked.
I think a single 9' cichlid will be ok in a 55g. I'd also suggest salvinis. A pair in a 55g would be awesome, but I wouldn't add anything else.

my 4 sds are in a 55, they dont get spooked, shy yes but they just take cover[when im cleaning], sometimes they crash when 2 are going for same flake of food

i have plenty caves for them to go in ther happy fish
