hey ive got a 55 4ft (66 us )and was wondering on stocking ideas i was thinking

green terror
jack dempsey
convict
senegal birch
dithers ( tiger barbs? )

what do you think or any suggestions?

I think you mean Senegal Bichir and no that tank is not large enough for that many fish and the Tiger barbs will get eaten by the Bichir eventually.... Try something like a 120gal and take out the Bichir and Convicts or if you want a 55gal just get the one Senegal Bichir and that is it really (concerning your stock at least)

so a Gt and JD be to big for a 4 foot tank? and isnt there a type of senegal that grows to a max 12" ? i have a convict at the moment and im looking for tank mates any suggestions?

With the GT and JD, it's not that both won't "fit" in the tank. If they were 2 fish that loved each other and weren't terribly aggressive, it would be fine, but psychologically, it would be overstocked with these 2. They'd tear each other to pieces, I'd imagine. I keep my GT singly, in a 75, and he tries to fight me when I walk in the room LOL I think they're a fish best kept singly or in a huge tank. He's totally worth it, though. He has so much personality that I don't miss having any other fish in the tank.

Yeah the tank is big enough for the bioload but jd and green terrors and convicts can become very agressive to one another espicially with age. Tiger barbs are too small for dithers for jd and green terrors. How about 2 tinfoil barbs with a green terror anthe birchir. Less of a chance for agression with fast moving non-cichlids types with your cichlid. Or you could do the barbs with just the jd and a pleco.

a single convict, a small group of tiger barbs, and a sen might work in a 55. depending on the size and aggression levels of the fish. It "could" work.

cheers for the help. 3 types of small fish would just look empty. i got told a female GT and male JD could work with convicts as dithers if the convicts where small? plus ive got convicts at the moment so i would like to keep them. i just like the idea of aggressive interesting fish :)

Unfortunately, aggressive fish require larger tanks than what you've got if you want to keep more than one, or they'll end up as the only fish in the tank, even if you didn't plan it that way! I think, if I was going to choose dithers for my GT in the 75, which is a 4-foot tank, I'd probably choose a small school of spotted silver dollars. They're fast, and move a lot, and they don't get as large as the other types. Unfortunately, the convicts really limit your choices, and if they're a pair, it really, really limits your choices. However, if they are a pair, then they could do fine in a much smaller tank, and then you'd have the 75 open for what you want to do with it. LOL yes I'm saying you need justonemoretank. :nilly:
