If it was me, i'd just get rid of the convict

I can't answer that... because I would never have a convict LOL but hopefully someone can chime in with some help for you. I'm not saying they're bad fish, but I tend to shy away from aggressive fish unless I'm giving them their own tank.

LOL then I would go with one large fish and several dithers, or just one large fish. I am not very familiar with JDs as I have never had one, but the GT doesn't really need a dither. He's plenty active, all by himself... if you do choose to go with dithers, though, just make sure the dither is large enough not to be lunch for your large fish.

what large cichlids do you think would work best as im thinking of taking your advice and going for one large one with dithers and bottom dwellers ? ?

I have a male jd in a 55 us gal for a year now. He is beautiful, big, problem is he always hides and won't come out. I bought him a female ebjd and he don't care. My next resort is to get dithers. He just hides in his cave, and won't come out to eat either. I have to turn the lights off for him to eat lol. But every fish is different. Just telling you my own experience with a jd.

Well, after fishnoob's story on his JD, I'd say a GT! I really, really like mine, if you couldn't tell! As for your plans with dithers and bottom-dwellers, just be really careful on what you stock. I'm not sure what type of filtration you have going right now, but just keep an eye on your nitrate level, and stock slowly to avoid overstocking. Also, after you get a good idea of what you want, you could post the whole stocking list, along with your tank size and what filtration you've got, and get people's opinions. Also, so that you're not limiting yourself, you could go hang around the cichlid forums and look at the photos and read people's experiences so that you know what's out there that would work for you.

lol im so torn between GT or JD (p.s id love a EBJD) and would a pair of either be ok? and ye cheers for the advice ill post up again soon when ive had a big think lol

I was always told a JD pair in a 55 us gal was fine but nothing more. And you have 66 us gal tank? So I think you can do a jd pair. But not sure of a GT pair in that tank.
