560 Room Divider Build. Follow the fun....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hard to believe I started this project way back in July after having a few glasses of wine. There are times I wondered if I would ever have it done, and even though I have a bit of work remaining, it is finally close! I first selected maxspect razor for my lighting but recently changed to the Zetlight ZP3600 (4 of them) and will be receiving these on Monday. I did a fair amount of research and believe this is the product that suits my tank the best. I'll give everyone an update once I have them hooked up. I have plenty of rock work to be completed and will start that on Wednesday...should be a hoot!

I added the bar to the side of the stand and was going to order barstools from Pottery Barn (matching the ones in the kitchen) but they discontinued the product. So, I decided to build 6! Pottery Barn charges $260 per stool and the DIY is just under $100 (Leather was the most expensive part). If anyone wants to make these, let me know, and I'll give you some pointers on all the 5 degree cuts.

Anyhow, I'm close, and here is the resulting pictures for the dining room / living room tank divider. My iPhone makes everything look more yellow than it really is. Sorry about the quality.

One step closer. Still have lights, chiller relocation, rock work and in a few weeks introduction of SPS....I'll keep everyone posted.

Cheers!

Tom

that is amazing build dude, i am seriously going too use your kitchen pics too sell my wife on the idea of something i was planning that is similar , thanx for the inspiration

Awesome set up. I'll buy that board on the wall in a heartbeat!!!

I received 4 ZP3600 Zetlight and begin the process of hanging them from the celinging but quickly realized it wasn't going to work. Was a drag sitting at the bar and looking up only to get blinded. I'll tell you, these lights have great great coverage (only 4 on my 144" tank) and with the integrated timer, dawn to dusk, and ability to link together, it was just was I was looking for. As my tank continues to grow I'll update everyone on the SPS progress etc. Anyhow, I blew it with the ceiling...had the lights hung, even ran an outlet on dedicated 20 amp breaker...ahhh...anyhow, I screwed up :) So, I took a day and half and built a canopy to match the stand. Don't think it turned out too bad. It's a simple design that allows the lights to hook on the outside. The Zetlight allows up to a 36" span, which is great because it's 31 1/2 outside / outside.

Remaining work: Hook up kalkwasser reactor, relocate chiller, reposition mondo skimmer...and more rock work!

I also took a time lapse of pictures, rolled them into a short video and posted it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ4P0G4eVqQ&feature=youtu.be

Any questions, send me an email.

Cheers!
