20140601_194637.jpg20140601_194917.jpgCleaned and did weekly wc today so I snapped a couple pics. One was just to show off how bright the light is and the cool ripple on the wall

With so much real estate why aren't you using it? I suggest some crypts. Pretty tough plant, they don't need co2 or bright lights, you just have to feed root tabs.

If you think your lights are too bright and need to cut down, throw in some floaters (plants I mean) to give some shade. It'll be pretty cool looking when they flower.

I only want plants on the driftwood and not in the substrate. I am going to add amazon frogsbit whenever I get around to ordering itm. I just hope it doesnt make it too dim because the light only comes from one point.

Added 6 ottos a couple days ago and they have been doing work. Also added ugly sponges because ive lost many to the filter intake in the past. I have stainless steel screen ones but they dont fit. 20140614_211610.jpg

20140624_192940.jpg20140624_190849.jpg20140624_190712.jpgFinally added a few more fish. No good lfs down here but I made it up to charleston today and was quite impressed with tideline aquatics. Ended up with 18 wc rummynose tetras, 2 german blue rams and 4 big amano shrimp. My angelfish has taken exception to the rams but not too bad and the amano shrimp spent 2 min eating algae before they all ended up in one corner picking through where the poo settles which is somewhat upsetting but maybe they will get bored with that.

That ram is gorgeous!!! Also like the tank I want a rimless 55 gallon now instead of my standard 55. :(

Also java fern looks really nice but the plantlets don't bother you? When I had then they bothered me lol

Thanks, I love the rimless look, there are some tough things to think about like surface film and evaporation and such but the final look is so worth it imo.

Java fern is odd but it doesnt bother me. When I get a bunch of plantlets at decent size ill pull the wood and attach them. Now my old amazon sword flowering... that drove me nuts haha. Similar plantlets on a runner but they were about 4" tall and the flowers grew right out of the top of a 29" tall tank.

Yea evap isn't a joke I remember leaving my 55 without the hoods/lights for a week when I planted swords/ferns before and I was losing like 3 gallons a day.

I'd like for my sword to flower!! I had my anubias nana flower a month after I planted them. It was beautiful and the flower stayed for almost two months afterwards although it only opened up three times for a couple days at a time.

Not only does evaporation make it difficult to maintain water quality I find this tank takes much more to keep it up to temp because evap=cooling. Never knew anubias nana flowered. I remember an old thread of someone who had the most amazing anubias in pots and all his flowered but never seen or heard of nana flowering. Someone told me the key to getting amazon sword to flower was getting it to reach the surface. I bought it about 30" tall so it just did it. Wasnt very pretty though, just a long stick and a couple small flowers on it
