580 Gallon Aquarium Filtration Ideas

If possible use a drip/trickle system. This is easiest with a sump. Acrylic is almost as easy to drill as wood. It’s really no trouble at all. Get an old used 125 for your sump and your all set.

You're probably right if the city of Tracy treated their water with chorine, but they treat their water with chloramines which does not off gas like chlorine does. Not treating the incoming drip would eventually lead to elevated chlormine levels that could get to lethal levels pretty quickly.

I also saw that the tank is back up for sale the other day: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/for/4152745392.html

Man, the stand looks flimsy. It almost looks like the stand was made to just to move the empty tank acound since it's on wheels.

OP, if you are still thinking about getting this, you would need a new stand.

wow yeah that stand isn't going to cut it. Well for the tank anyway, might make a decent workbench...come to think of it that's what it looks like. With that tank you're talking 5000lbs water alone, + the tank weight, lids, any decorations, gravel, etc. Likely over 6000lbs when all is said and done.

oh yeah you got me I joined the forum when I was 8 lol.

seriously what do you have invested in this? That response was defensive as hell. Can you show proof it can hold the tank while full of 580 gallons gravel and fish? It looks completely suspect.

I post up real number and you insult me. To me it says you're selling the tank and it's a sleasy used car style type of sale.

The only concern I would have with that stand is the casters

casters are likely removed when the tank is stationary and are just on there for easy movement of the tank. The real concern is the complete lack of crossbracing. Steel is strong but you're putting a hell of alot of faith in the welding at that point.
