Can anyone recommend a pike they like that maxes out about 6-7"? Doesn't have to be that size exactly, but not much bigger. Thanks

Cr. sp. "Belly Crawler" is one that gets to about 8". That, or a green dwarf pike (not sure on the scientific name), only gets to 6".

regani or compressiceps are dwarve and usually get around 5"
best bet would be the belly crawler though

Crenicichla lucius and Crenicichla proteus are some of the more common Saxatilis pikes that stay a little smaller.

Crenicichla sp. 'bellycrawler' is a great pike as well, but can definately push those limits.

Practically all the dwarfs would fit those criteria. What size tank and tankmates are you looking at as well? That will help in picking out the right one as well. ;)

If I ever see a 5" compressiceps I am running away from that aquarium and never returning to that state ever ever again!!! I wouldn't feel safe!!!

It is a 210gal, 7x2x2. There will be an RD, Bleekeri, EBJD, large pleco(18+), clown loach, and maybe something else ca/sa. Can't make up my mind what or if I want another big cichlid. Also I know it gets about double what I said, but what does everyone know about crenicichla marmorata?

I would deffinately slip the dwarves with a RD and bleekeri ... so no regani, noto's, or compressiceps. I would think a marm would be able to stand up to the RD and Bleekeri fairly well though. Tank is certainly big enough.

Yeah, with those tankmates, you're going to need larger pikes to deal with the aggression.

i recomend sveni, lucius, frenata, saxitilis. dwarf pikes are just going to be too small for those tank mates. they usually max out at around 3"-4". i say you just get a lugubris type pike. i think it'll better suit your likings.

I say skip the dwarves, too. You're going to have to be really careful with the EBJD.
