While looking helplessly for a Mata Mata locally I ran across a really good looking 6" alligator snapping turtle.

This could be a very stupid question that I'm about to ask..
I don't have any turtle experience (other than red ear sliders when I was a kid), but I'm a fast learner and I love a challenge.

Would this work in a 125G with a 12" black wolf (hoplias curupira) as a grow out for the turtle?
With 75% water level I'm thinking.
I know the tank would be too small in the long run

How would a 6" alligator snapper fair with a much bigger fish? Any experience?

Picture of the actual turtle.. Just gorgeous

snapping turtles are capable of taking down things much larger than themselves. They will kill anything you put in that tank with them.

This guys should have some Mata's available. He does not update the page often so they are not listed but I am almost positive he still has some 4-6"ers for $175 each. give him a shout.

sliders, mata, or even a small regular snapper might work...

all those will kill the slow moving wolf

The smaller mud and musk turtle species MIGHT leave that fish alone. I keep mine with a large pleco and they could care less about it.

snapper is gonna destroy the wolf

btw have you seen what snappers can do personally? I don't know if they're in canada area.... People who have caught them in the wild or seen them in person what those guys can do wouldn't be even be posting this question... thats my opinion

I had regular one that I grew out from hatchling to 3'' and it was 1 pound of solid muscle. I would not put any snappers over 3'' with any fish unless its food.

I have had a big Mata swallow a big wolf, without any difficulty.

Ali snappers are ambush predators and it will chunk a piece of the wolf in the blink of an eye.

Common snappers are one of the most active hunters i know in turtles. The wolf, once spotted, would last 30 seconds.

Red ears would bother the wolf with claws and beak. Wolf would always be stressed.

I agree with Seth that you could try Musks. However, a pleco is better armoured than a wolf.

Last but not least, turtles take a huge toll on water quality. Not the best place for a wolf ( or any fish, imo ) to thrive.
