And you guys bought all of this stuff yourself? Pump, tarp, kois, food, extension cords to the power source?
We got some "old pumps" that were left over from a family friends dried out pond(luckily they still worked we got these for free after watching their pets for a month), we improvised with old garden hoses for the pump/waterfall the koi were all purchased from money earned doing other chores around the house, food for the koi were local garden worms that we would dig up once a week, the tarp was a left over cover for our bikes that we never used, so I made sure it had no holes and we ran with it. The only thing I paid for out of pocket was electric for the pump, I made sure to give my parents 10$ a month. But yeah it had to be the cheapest setup iv ever done lol

As far as gravel. If your happy that's all that matters. everyone has different opinions. gravel is like underwear not everyone has the same, they pick what they like
