My biomax is about 6 months old and I've cleaned them twice so far. Should I keep using them or throw them away? They don't look white any more bit brownish and I can see brown dots all over. I tried put them in a bucket filled with chlorine free water and gave em a wash yesterday but they still look brownish and the dark brown dots are still there.

I don't think your supposed to ever throw them away, thats where your beneifical bacteria are stored for that kind of filter.
yeah thats your bb benefical bacteria its what actually cleans your tank. when you do rinse them you should do it in a bucket of your tank water an just rinse them never ever scrub them.
I keep them forever, and as noted above only clean them with aquarium water. You want the bacteria to stay alive on them.
Biomax's sole purpose is to hold benefical bacteria to break down the ammonia and nitrites in the water. That's the whole purpose we cycle our tanks. You should NEVER wash them in bleach, tapwater, soap and water. Then brown you see is the bacteria and they should only have be washed out it tank water just to get debris and gunk out. Washing them the way you have more then likely has killed the bacteria and now your tank is probaly cycling again. I would test you tank water and see what your stats are. The only time you should ever replace them is when the begin to fall apart. Once in awhile you should wash them out with tank water.
Yeah I know they house the good bacteria but I was thinking the dark brown dots might be some small debris cloged in there. On the manual it says replace every 3 months so I was confused as I know that sounds wierd cus it takes a week or 2 to get the colony back. Guess I shld use my tank water but I am bit lazy to siphon some lol. But I use tap water conditioned with 1 ml of prime in half full bucket before I put the rings in. And I give few stirs with hand, no scrubbing.
