6 week update Goliath

Yea I'm not sure I made a mistake. He was in pretty bad shape when I got him. Shipping did a number on him. It took almost two weeks to even get him interested in anything. Much less trying to break a fish that was shipped across the country that arrived upside down! He had trouble getting settled in...
I'll get him broke. But I wanted him comfortable and health before starting the process.

Wes suggested I do this as well.

Mistake? lol. It's not your first rodeo. I'm sure things will end up just fine. He backstroked. Let it eat whatever the hell it wants. Eating is the only important thing at the time. Once healthy or even huge if you wanted then break onto pellets OR maybe these fish do better on a live fish diet?

I'm actually thinking about feeding my Tiggers live food this summer. I'd like to go fishing for food instead of buying it. I've got some sick toothy critters here and have seen them "slam" "pound" and "destroy" pellets. Sometimes I sit in the smelly massivore soaked air and wonder what "if" the fish do smell it? More often I wonder would it be better to feed them live fish? They are predatory fish.......

IF we're running UVs shouldn't it be ok to do so?

Not gonna lie, I feed mine live quarantined feeder Rosie's at least 3 times a week. It's way more entertaining to watch... Running uv as well.

Are these type of fish fed all live food diets in China? What about Payara (Armatus)?

That is exactly what i was thinking as well. I dont want the hassle of live forever, so eventually he will eat prepared food. I want him healthy and comfortable first and foremost before i am going to work on prepared.
I wonder the same thing, if UV would give us protection as well.

Good question. Im thinking live mostly......

So the trend over here is varied since wet markets are everywhere but I see people feeding a mix of chopped up market prawn, squid, loaches etc. live feeders are also prevalent because many fish like to chase live fish and I feel like hobbyists here are kind of too lazy to do pellet training or loading into shrimp etc, my supplier would have quarantined feeders that are fed flower horn pellets that sell by kilos. Literally. I have a dedicated 50 gallon that is only for my feeders. For whatever the reason, I see larger than usual specimens being kept here with less than optimal care and the fish do just fine. People here don't use dechlorinator for the most part with some exotic keepers being the exception..

Well good news after 3-4 days of starving i threw in some dead (frozen) minnows and after i leave the room and darken the lights he seems to have no problem eating them. However it may take a few tries of me picking the fish off the returns or the powerheads to keep the bait suspended for him to show interest. He sure dont like to eat with me watching.
