im usen play sand have to wash it very well but looks great and really cheap got 250 lbs for 19 bucks
What kind of filter are u running I'm about to put sand on my 55 gallon that I bout at petco 40lb for 36 dollars u think it would be enough

Finally switched over. 50# bag was just right for my 55. Cleaned it and had no cloudiness issues whatsoever. Water was 95% clear on the first fill and 100% clear within 10 minutes. The stuff is great. Can't beat it for the price.
I think you will need more than 40 potentially. I used 50 n it was just enough. Depends how thick u want it.
I'm using a marine land emperor 400. It has probably sucked up a lot of sand and it still runs perfect
