yes, it will be fine for a very long time

Make that very very very very long time... 4 years I think if you get them at under 5"

with the exception of new guinea and wide bar dats i heard that datnoids are really shy and do a lot better if they are in a group

but yes, they grow UBER slow, you will have PLENTY of time before they outgrow the 60 gallon

By the way, I've had dats for almost 2 years and since they were around 2" and I have a 100G. The tank will last them at least 2 more years I think at their growth rate. My dats are now 5.5 - 7" small.

I have a 100G tank with 2 NGT and 6 IT's, 4,5,5,7,8 and 10".
If I really want them to thrive, I may need to pass on the Big IT. Definately no more in this tank.

I went to 2 of the lfs yesterday. One only specialized in african cichlids and they couldn't get one in for me. They other store didn't keep them normally and most of the staff hadn't heard of them but one guy had and they said they could order me one. Im not ready to get fish yet im about to move for college so I was just seeing if they were available. How many should I get? What would be some good tankmates?

I just called my lfs their supplier hasn't put any on their list... I might have to buy online.... has anyone bought their dats online? Should I keep it alone or have any tank mates???

sorry didn't mean to repeat. I still would like to know if anyone has bought theirs online...I would rather see it in person before I buy it, but if the lfs never calls me that is what I will have to do.

I would just go into your LFS and talk to the manager and get them to order you some, IMO ordering online should be a last resort...
